Ten journalists from South Africa including Now Media, News24, Joburg Style and BizCommunity, were hosted on a site visit to Massinga Beach and Castelo do Mar in Inhambane in November 2013.
The Group flew by a 15-seater Embraer 110 from Lanseria and via Kruger Mpumalanga airport. This aircraft is available for group charter and ideal for a Beach & Bush excursion.

Two days after the national elections and a peaceful visit to the Inhambane market, the beaming welcoming smiles and an essential purchase of mango pickle, the new Cassinga catamaran waiting elegantly in the harbour, sailed us elegantly across the Bay to where the bus was waiting for the onward transfer, over the tropic of Capricorn, to Massinga Beach.

Here the romantic setting and gorgeous bedrooms had the group promising they would soon be back for more.

Massinga Beach recently opened a luxury, 3 bedroomed, self-catering house situated up and behind the main complex. With breath taking views, a spacious deck, swimming pool and the option to cater in or dine at the Lodge; this is taking a beach holiday to a whole new level. More of these houses are planned on the 100ha estate. Email for more information

No wonder this is self-catering – who would want to leave?
At low tide, a guest transfer in 4×4 is possible along the beach between Castelo do Mar and Massinga Beach making a combination package of romantic relaxation and scuba or deep-sea fishing easy.

Castelo do Mar’s new beachfront deluxe rooms are due for completion by mid-December and give new meaning to the “beach and sea on your doorstep”! Look no further for spacious, cool and really well-priced accommodation in Mozambique. Included in the new block of 8 rooms is a honeymoon suite with jacuzzi on the veranda and also an interleading family room with direct access to the beach. All the new rooms will have 39 ins TV, tea/coffee station, air conditioning and Wi fi.

For completion before Easter next year, a small spa and a second games room will further enhance the Castelo do Mar experience. With so much to do, a week long stay is probably not sufficient. Activities include Pansy island picnics, mangrove birding, fishing with an ex-SA champion angler, diving in search of dugong, water-skiing and sailing, to name a few.

In addition to operating the lodge transfers, the ‘Cassinga’ yacht, based at Castelo do Mar, will offer morning diving excursions, sunset cruises and sea safaris off this renowned Manta coast.

Accessible by air or self-drive about 600kms north of Maputo and the offer of Pay/Stay specials, it would be foolish to ignore this spot for too much longer.
